The redox potential is an indicator for the disinfection effectiveness of water and the germ elimination speed.
A high redox potential at low chlorine concentration indicates that a slight organic strain in the water exists. Therefore, in central Europe, redox potential is used as a hygiene parameter and not as a control parameter. Using redox potential (ORP) as a control parameter can cause high over and under dosing due to the relative inertia of measurements with fluctuating strains – which can negatively affect water quality.
